Prince George's Co school girl was not sexually assaulted, police say

FORT WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Police said a girl who claimed she was sexually assaulted while walking home from her school bus stop in Fort Washington made the story up.

The girl told Prince George's County police that the incident happened on September 28 around 2:30 p.m. at Devon Hills Drive at Grasmere Court in Fort Washington. She claimed a man sexually assaulted her as she walked from her school bus stop. 

Detectives learned that the reported sexual assault did not happen. The girl told a family member she saw a similar incident on a television show. The investigation has been closed. 

Our detectives worked tirelessly to investigate this report and to follow it through to its conclusion. Every sexual assault reported to the Prince George’s County Police Department is handled with the upmost seriousness. We remind the public that if you have been the victim of a sexual assault, we always urge you to please come forward and to report it, so that our detectives can thoroughly investigate, charge those responsible, and help keep this community safe.
