Capital Wheel heads to National Harbor

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- A giant 175-foot observational wheel is on its way to the National Harbor by barge.

The Capital Wheel will operate year round and is set to open in May 2014. The wheel has 42 closed, climate controlled gondolas which seat eight people each.

The diameter of the wheel is 165 feet, and from the top you'll be able to see the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol.

It will cost $15 per ride and is estimated to be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. year-round.

The National Harbor is joining cities with observational wheels including London, Seattle, Niagara Falls, Brisbane, Perth, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Malacca Island, Pigeon Forge and Myrtle Beach.
