Police: Officer pinned under minivan during traffic stop

FORESTVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County police say an officer was hit by a minivan while conducting a traffic stop Thursday morning.

Julie Parker with Prince George's County police says three officers were conducting a traffic stop shorty before 9 a.m. when a black minivan came barreling down the road. Two of the officers were able to jump out of the way. The minivan hit three police cruisers.

The officer, who is assigned to the District III station in Palmer Park, was trapped under the minivan for several minutes before first responders were able to free him, officials say.

It happened on Pennsylvania Avenue near Walters Lane. Pennsylvania Avenue was shut down between Donnell Drive and Parkland Drive Thursday morning.

Police say the officer was flown to Prince George's Hospital Center with serious injuries. The driver of the minivan was transported to a local hospital, officials say.

The injured officer has served the Prince George's County Police Department for one-and-a-half years. The officer will not be identified until all family members are notified.
