Fire damages former Sandy Spring youth home

SANDY SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Firefighters are at the scene of a house fire in Sandy Spring that has gone to two alarms, says Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer on Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 5:15 a.m. in the 17700 block of Norwood Rd. The house was formerly Aunt Hattie's House, a youth home.

The lone occupant of the home, an adult female, was alerted to the fire by the fire alarm and smoke in the house, Piringer said. She was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital after slipping on the ice and injuring his shoulder, WUSA9's Nikki Burdine reported.
