Clara Barton Parkway reopens after fatal crash

One person is dead near the DC, Maryland line.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- One person is dead and another victim has been injured in a fiery early morning crash on the Clara Barton Parkway.

According to Captain Oscar Garcia, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, crews responded to the scene around 12:49 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash with a person trapped inside the vehicle, which had caught fire.  Firefighters arrived at the scene and found the vehicle still burning.  The flames were quickly extinguished.

United States Park Police officials confirm one occupant has been pronounced dead.  Capt. Garcias says a second victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

USPP are investigating the incident and directing traffic around the scene, which was blocking the Clara Barton Parkway between Chain Bridge and the Glen Echo turn-around.  The closure lasted several hours.
