Inmate found unresponsive inside Fairfax County Detention Center cell

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA (WUSA9) - A 53-year-old inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center early Saturday morning, according to police.

Police said the inmate was found in the cell around 6:45 a.m.

Sheriff’s deputies immediately initiated CPR. After extensive efforts to revive the inmate, he was pronounced dead.
This is being labeled as a medical/death investigation, according to Fairfax County Police, and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Nothing appeared to be suspicious at this time, police said.

The inmate had been incarcerated since Sept. 15, 2015 and was assigned to a unit where inmates are checked every 30 minutes.

The average daily inmate population in the ADC is 1,050.
