Inmate who died at Fairfax jail identified

FAIRFAX, VA. (AP/WUSA) - An inmate who died over the weekend at the Fairfax County jail has been identified as a 53-year-old Herndon man.

Fairfax County Police said Tuesday that Kelly Maurice Scott was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday morning. Police say efforts to revive Scott failed and he was pronounced dead.

Police announced the death Saturday, but withheld his name until Tuesday so family could be notified.

Scott had been incarcerated at the jail since September 2015 and was assigned to a unit where inmates are checked every 30 minutes. Police say nothing about his death appears suspicious, but a routine investigation is being conducted.

The Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death “Acute Peritonitis due to Perforated Duodenal Ulcer” and the manner of death was “natural.”
