21-year-old arrested for sex assault on Fairfax trail

On some popular trails in Fairfax County though, there is fear - after six women were attacked in the past two weeks.

FAIRFAX, VA (WUSA9) - A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault that happened Thursday night on a walking trail in Fairfax, Va. 

Police arrested Jeremiah Whitmore Tolley of Fairfax, Va. He was charged with abduction with intent to defile and sexual assault. 

Around 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, police say a woman was walking on a trail near Waples Mill Road and Random Hills Road when a man grabbed her from behind and groped her. 

A passing car scared the suspect which caused the attacked to stop. Police say he was last seen running along Random Hills Road. 

The man was described as white,18-30 years old, with a thin build, and around 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall with dark blonde/light brown hair and was unshaven, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt.

Police say the victim was not injured. 

The case could be linked to other assaults that have occurred on nearby trails in the Fairfax area. Police say five assaults have occurred over the last two weeks. Generally, the assaults took place after 4 p.m. 

It is unclear at this time of Tolley is connected to the other assault cases.
