2 hikers found after getting lost, injured near C&O Canal

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA. (WUSA9) - Two men have been found after getting lost and suffering injuries while they were hiking near the C&O Canal early Tuesday morning, Fairfax County police said. 

Officials said the men contacted Arlington County Police and Fire dispatchers around 2:30 a.m. after falling and losing their bearings in the area of the C&O Canal. 

At least on of the men suffered injuries after falling, US Park Police said. They, along with Metropolitan Police, Arlington Police, and Fairfax County Police all helped with the search.  

Fairfax County launched a chopper to assist in the operation. 

They were eventually found by Fairfax County units near GW Parkway just south of Rt. 123/Chain Bridge Rd. 

Arlington County officials said both of the men were taken to the Virginia Hospital Center around 3:19 a.m. Their injuries are non-life-threatening.
