Elderly man shot inside Alexandria home

Woman cooperating after deadly shooting

ALEXANDRIA, VA (WUSA9) - An Alexandria woman was being interviewed by police Wednesday after a deadly shooting inside her home.

Police say an elderly man was shot in the upper body inside a townhouse in the 1100 block of Duke Street. The 911 call came from inside the home at 10:45 a.m.

“At times we’ve seen them walking nicely just walking the dogs,” said one neighbor.

Just like their picturesque neighborhood, the couple looked great from the outside. Now homeowners in this close knit community wonder what trouble lurked behind closed doors.

“I’ve lived here for 5 years nothing like this happened in the time I’ve been here,” said another neighbor.

Police said there is no threat to the community but residents said the police presence and wondering what happened inside their neighbor’s home are unsettling.

“I’m glad it’s isolated. I don’t feel unsafe,” said one man. “There’s plenty of crazy people in the world. You kind of hope they don’t live right next to you.”

The victim was identified as Rolf Marshall, of Alexandria.

His wife, Paula Marshall, has been charged with murder.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Detective William Oakley with the Alexandria Police Department at (703) 746-6606.
