Driver identified in fatal I-95 truck crash

ARBUTUS, Md. (WJZ/WUSA9) — State police say they have tentatively identify a driver who was killed after his truck went over the I-95 overpass near I-895 on the Baltimore County-Howard County line.

Nathaniel White, 73, of Takoma Park was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on Monday when a 2005 Ford truck towing a trailer was traveling southbound on I-95 in the area of the Patapsco River Bridge. The Ford truck and the trailer separated, after which the truck hit the bridge embankment on the right side before going over the embankment. The Ford truck fell, landing in the park below and caught on fire, police said.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.

The trailer came to rest on I-95 blocking the right two lanes, which were closed for several hours. State Highway engineers inspected the bridge and made necessary repairs, officials said.

Police do not know the speed of the truck at this time and are still investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barracks at (410) 780-2700.
