Dog left in hot car in Md. returned to owner

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County police say a man who left his dog alone in a hot pickup truck gets to keep the pet.

On July 15, police responded to the Glen Burnie District Court parking lot at 7500 block of Ritchie Highway after a woman noticed a dog in an unattended pickup truck.

Police say that one of the truck's windows was open about one inch and there was no water for the dog, who appeared to be in distress.

After looking for the owner of the truck, police say they broke a window of the truck to rescue the dog, a seven-year-old Scot-Terrier mix. We're told the temperature was 90 degrees.

Police say the owner, identified as 54-year-old James Humphries of Owings, Md., returned to the truck about 35 minutes after officers arrived. He was cited for leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle.

The dog did not require medical attention and was therefore returned to Humphries.
