Diesel fuel spill in Md.

COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Officials are on the scene of a diesel fuel clean up in Howard county, Maryland.

Officials were called to the 5600 block of Vantage Point Road for reports of a hazardous materials incident. When they arrived, they found that a nearby holding tank had leaked around one thousand gallons of diesel into the drain system and into Lake Kittamaqundi.

The cause of the leak is because a glass fuel gauge on the tank broke, officials said.

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) will stay on the scene to continue cleanup with the help of a private contractor, officials said.
