WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A decision was expected to be made in December on where officials plan to move the FBI Headquarters. Officials now say this decision will not be made until next year.
The FBI is now housed in the J. Edgar Hoover Building on Pennsylvania Avenue. Officials say the building, that was built in the 1970's is outdated and is not big enough to hold all 11,000 employees.
Officials have been looking at three different locations two in Prince George's County and one in Fairfax County
The new building is expected to cost over a billion dollars.
Top officials in Maryland and in Virginia have been fighting hard for the project.
Delaying the decision until 2017 means a new president will be in office and that could make all the difference.
