WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Metropolitan Police are looking for a killer after the discovery of a woman fatally shot in northeast D.C. overnight, just a short distance away from a police station and community churches.
According to MPD officials, police were called to investigate the shooting by members of DC Fire and EMS who responded to the scene in the 700 block of 51st Street around midnight. The woman was transported to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Members of MPD's Violent Crimes Branch were on the scene looking for clues. The investigation was being conducted just a short distance away from The House of Praise, and among other houses of worship on Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave. The crime scene is less than a half mile from MPD's Sixth District station.
Right now there is no information available on possible suspects or motive in the shooting.
