Police arrest woman accused of pouring urine on Metrobus driver

Woman arrested for throwing urine on Metrobus driver

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Metro has released video of a woman pouring a cup of urine on a Metrobus driver. Metro Transit Police is treating it as an assault.

Opal L. Brown, 38, of Southeast, D.C. was arrested shortly before noon on Wednesday for assaulting the Metrobus operator.

Police said Brown assaulted the driver, who's also a woman, on the X2 bus on Saturday near Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road, Northeast.

The surveillance video was sent to WUSA9 and WUSA9's Pete Muntean tweeted the video out on Twitter.

As the suspect left the bus, the operator told her to have a nice day, police reported. The suspect responded, “Are you talking to me?” When operator responded yes, the suspect took a purple cup that was filled with urine, reached around the bus operator’s bus shield, and poured it on the driver.

ATU Local 689, the union that represents Metro workers, called out the agency online and said action needs to be taken now.

"Metro must take accountability for their inaction over the last 10 years and they must develop a permanent solution to this increasingly dangerous problem now," the union said in a statement. "Unnecessarily placing workers and the riding public in danger is never acceptable when Metro can and should do more."
