Teamsters endorse Mayor Gray for reelection

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- On Monday, The Teamsters endorsed D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray for reelection, according to Gray campaign officials.

In a written statement, Teamsters Local 639 President Tommy Ratcliff said, "We need elected officials who respect workers. Mayor Gray is committed to protecting and supporting the values and principles of working families."

He continued, "Mayor Gray is a partner that we trust. He has always been there for us and we stand with him today."

Local 639, Local 730 and Local 67 are supporting the current mayor.

Gray campaign officials say the mayor has received endorsements from six other major unions: SEIU, AFSCME, UNITE HERE, LiUNA, the Building Trades and AFGE. They note that the D.C. Chamber of Commerce and the Washington Hotel Association as well as the D.C. Democratic Party organizations, the Latino Caucus and the Asian American & Pacific Islanders Caucus have endorsed Gray.
