Study: DC 2nd worst place for underprivileged children

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- According to personal finance social network Wallethub, Washington, D.C. is the second worst "state" for underprivileged children. WalletHub ranked the 50 states and the District of Columbia in its 2014's Best and Worst States for Underprivileged Children based on metrics ranging from infant death rates and children in foster care to child food insecurity rates and percentage of maltreated children.

Here's the breakdown for D.C. with the rank of 1 being the best:

  • 49th– % of Children in Households with Below-Poverty Income
  • 50th– % of Maltreated Children
  • 50th– Child Food Insecurity Rate
  • 47th– Infant Death Rate
  • 51st– Homeless Persons in Families per Capita
  • 51st– % of Children in Foster Care
  • 51st– % of Children in Single-Parent Families
  • 51st– Children living in Renter-Occupied Housing Units to Children living in Owner-Occupied Housing Units Ratio
