WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- It is that time of year. Families and friends gathered in the Northeast, Washington, D.C. neighborhood Rhode Island Row to watch a Christmas tree lighting.
"That was awesome," kids told WUSA9.
"Santa was here! Frosty the Snowman! And you have a Christmas tree that makes us happy. And stuff was free!"
Planning for the lighting began roughly three months ago and was organized to bring the community together, according to Kirkland Locey, one of the event's organizers.
Participants in the lighting enjoyed music, food and of course, holiday cheer.
