Report: DC police telling officers over 60 to retire

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- WNEW reports that "About 20 D.C. police officers over the age of 60 have received notice they must soon retire or they could possibly be fired."

According to the report, Fraternal Order of Police lawyers are investigating the claims that the officers received the notice without warning.

FOP chairman-elect Delroy Burton does not believe the department has the authority to do so. Burton told WNEW that the officers are still fit for duty.

"All of these guys are healthy, they come to work on time everyday, and they're actually on the street doing police work," said Burton.

D.C. police have not responded to WNEW's request for comment.
