Red, white and blue block party at Dupont

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Thousands of fans crowded around two Jumbotron screens in Dupont Circle Thursday to watch the highly anticipated match between the U.S. and Germany.

There was no question about their alliance as fans were covered in red, white and blue.

Lee Finkel wore his USA pants and said, "they're called the National Panthems and I wear them whenever I support the U.S. and that's every day of the year."

Lisa Bosley however, was pulling double fan duty since her family's from Germany.

She was draped in flags for both countries. 'I want to cheer for both. A tie would be fantastic."

A lot of fans skipped work to watch the match.

After half time, the excitement was replaced with nervousness after Germany scored the one and only goal of the match.

Despite the tough loss, the U.S. still advances to the round of 16.

"Im happy and relieved. Germany had 23 hours to recuperate," said a fan.

Another fan shouts, "we live to play another day. It was a win-win. Ghana made it happen. We made it happen, thats all i I gotta say."
