Police: Speeding car Southeast victim ID'd

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- U.S. Capitol Police are investigating a crash that happened early Friday morning in Southeast.

At approximately 3 a.m., police responded to a crash at the intersection of South Capitol Street & D Street. A BMW SUV was traveling northbound on South Capitol Street, Southeast and continued onto the United States Capitol Police exclusionary zone. That's where it hit a fixed traffic bollard. Because of the impact, the car was propelled airborne and hit a tree on the southwest curbside of the United States Capitol Police.

The driver, 19-year-old, Hunter B. Harries of McLean Va., was transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition.

The following streets are closed for traffic accident investigation:

  • Washington Avenue, SE and D Street, SE (East Bound)
  • New Jersey Avenue, SE and D Street (West Bound)
  • Washington Avenue, SE and South Capitol Street, SE (West Bound)
  • South Capitol St., SE from Washington Ave to C St., SE
