According to a tweet from D.C. Chief of Police Peter Newsham, the fireworks were seized in the 600 block of Jefferson Street in Northwest after a tip.

It is against D.C. law to light off any firework that explodes which includes mortars, cherry bombs and even roman candles.

Paul Trantham is an ANC commissioner in Southeast D.C. He wants more enforcement against illegal fireworks. He said it has been beyond bad all week.

But neighborhoods across the District feel differently.

"It's supposed to be loud. Red, white and blue," one resident said.
