WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The United States Park Police is investigating a three car crash that happened on the George Washington Memorial Parkway Wednesday and left one person dead.
According to authorities the crash happened northbound on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in the area of the first overlook around 4:43 p.m.
One victim got stuck in the car, police said. The trapped victim has been identified as Michael Alan Poling of Vienna, Virginia. Police said Poling was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Based of the investigation, a black BMW was going southbound in the left lane of the Parkway close to the first overlook when it crossed into the grass median into the northbound lanes.
The BMW ended up hitting a Hyundai SUV, police said. A Honda, also going northbound was hit by Poling's car, police said.
The driver of the BMW was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Criminal Investigations Branch is asking for the assistance of commuters that were traveling S/B on the GW Parkway that witnessed the crash or that may have information. Anyone with information is asked to call the United States Park Police Tip Line at 202-610-8737.
