Police identify victim in Northeast DC homicide

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- D.C. police have announced that an undetermined death that occurred Sunday in Northeast, D.C. has been ruled a homicide.

On Sunday, at approximately 10:06 p.m., police responded to a call for aggravated assault in the 1200 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast.

According to police, when officers arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive adult male lying in the roadway.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police say.

On Monday, at about 5:45 p.m. the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police say. He has been identified as 57-year-old Benjamin Jennings. An autopsy was performed and determined the cause of death to be blunt force injuries to the head.

Police said Thursday, they arrested 20-year-old Frank Lee Blanding of District Heights, Md. in connection with involuntary manslaughter.
