Officials investigate suspicious vehicle at White House

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- An adult male was arrested at the White House Tuesday afternoon after following a motorcade through the outermost security check point.

According to Secret Service Spokesperson George Ogilvie, at about 4:40 p.m. an unauthorized vehicle got in behind the motorcade at 17th St. and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

The vehicle was immediately stopped and the driver is in custody.

The driver of the vehicle was identified by officials as 55-year-old Mathew Evan Goldstein.

Goldstein is a treasury pass holder, which means he is authorized to enter the treasury department but he's unauthorized to enter the White House where he did at the northwest gate, officials said.

He is charged with one count of unlawful entry and police do not yet have an explanation as to why he attempted to gain entry through that specific checkpoint gate.

On Wednesday, Goldstein was ordered to stay away from the White House vicinity. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 21st at 9:30 a.m.
