WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - An investigation is underway after an overnight officer-involved shooting in Northwest, D.C.
The shooting happened in the 700 block of Park Road around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday night, D.C. police said.
Officers came across a man holding a gun, according to authorities. The officers told the suspect to drop the gun, however the suspect did not comply and raised the gun towards the officer.
Police said the officer then fired and hit the suspect. The suspect fled the scene but was quickly arrested by officers. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to authorities the suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Kenneth Burley of Southeast, D.C. He was arrested and is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Police recovered Burley's gun on the scene.
Nobody else was injured in the incident. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave.
The case remains under investigation.
