New fatherhood conference aims to help local dads

WASHINGTON (WUSA) - The D.C. government is putting a new focus on fatherhood.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Child Support Services Division (CSSD) alongside Medstar Family Choice, will host a Fatherhood Conference on June 24, Men's Health Day.

The conference theme is "Celebrating Men: Bridging the Gap, Investing in Our Future."

The goal is to improve the lives of local fathers by giving them the tools they need for meaningful employment, maintaining healthy relationships, money management and good health.

“A father’s most important job is to be a consistent, reliable, and supportive part of his child’s life,” Attorney General Karl A. Racine said. “But we also know that too many fathers face barriers that get in the way of their doing everything they can for their children."

The conference will include moderated panels, food, workshops, a health fair, and a Town Hall meeting. All of the events will be held at on the St. Elizabeths East Campus at 2730 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
