WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- And she's out! National Zoo panda cub Bao Bao ventured outside Tuesday morning in her mother's yard.
Zoo officials say seven-month-old Bao Bao will have access to the yard beginning at 8 a.m. on days that the temperature is at least 35 degrees Fahrenheit with no precipitation.
Tuesday morning, Bao Bao was exploring her mother Mei Xiang's yard, checking out a tree and holding bamboo. Officials say she's started to taste bamboo but is still nursing from Mei.
Although Bao Bao will have the option to go outside, she may decide to stay inside the panda house on some days. Keepers say it may take several weeks before Bao Bao ventures outside regularly.
