Washington Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans, who represents Logan Circle, issued the following statement Saturday afternoon:
"This morning at around 1:45am, a man, who has been identified as 33 year old Charles Douglas of Capitol Heights, MD, was sitting in his car on the 1300 block of Riggs Place NW when someone approached the vehicle and fired several shots.
DC Fire and EMS arrived immediately on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
This morning I discussed the shooting with the Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier. MPD arrived on the scene immediately and began investigating this crime. They are fully engaged to determine who did this and to capture the culprit.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call MPD at 202-645-9600.
On July 9th, I hosted a Logan Circle community crime meeting with the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission. Chief Lanier, Deputy Chief Diane Groomes, and other MPD officers attended the meeting to discuss recent criminal activity in the neighborhood.
We have worked too hard, for too long to combat the terrible crime that once plagued our city. I will continue to work closely with MPD, Mayor Bowser, and the Council to make sure we are doing everything we can to keep our residents safe.
I would also like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Charles Douglas on the event of his tragic passing."
