Man tries to enter Congressional Office building with gun

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A man was arrested after he tried to enter the Longworth House Office Building with an unloaded gun Monday morning, US Capitol police said.

The 25-year-old Joshua Wheeler of Atchison, Kansas tried to go into the New Jersey and C Street entrance of the building. He was then required to do an administrative search which is standard in order to enter the Congressional Office buildings.

US Capitol police found an unloaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun.

Wheeler was arrested and is being charged with carrying a pistol without a license, and unregistered firearm. He is currently being processed at the USCP Headquarters located at 119 D Street in Northeast, D.C.
