Man arrested for gun at House office building

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- United States Capitol Police say a man was arrested Wednesday morning at the Cannon House Office Building for attempting to bring a gun through a security checkpoint.

USCP officials say the firearm was recovered as a result of an administrative search at the entrance to the rotunda of the building at approximately 9:20 a.m.

Police identified the man as 59-year-old Ronald William Prestage, of Camden, S.C.

USCP says he's charged with carrying a pistol without a license. They identified the gun as a 9mm Ruger.

The defendant is currently being processed at USCP headquarters.

This is the second time in less than a week that someone has been arrested for trying to bring a gun through the security checkpoint at Cannon.

On Friday, July 18, the press secretary for Rep. Tom Marino was arrested for attempting to bring a 9mm Smith & Wesson into the building.
