Former DC Councilmember Carol Schwartz running for mayor

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Former D.C. At-large Councilmember Carol Schwartz announced Monday that she will run for D.C. mayor.

"In the five and a half years since I have been out of elected office, my name has not been in the paper that much nor should it be; but whenever it is, I am often referred to as the "perennial mayoral candidate." Well, it's been 12 years since I ran for Mayor. That was in 2002; it's now 2014. That's a long time. But since I'm still referred to in that vein, I might as well be what I'm called. So today I am announcing my candidacy for Mayor of the District of Columbia," Schwartz said in a statement announcing her candidacy.

Schwartz began her first term on the D.C. Council in the mid-80s and remained there until 2009.
