Final DC mayoral debate Wednesday on WUSA9

D.C. voters have only one more week before they head to the polls to elect a mayor. Recent D.C. news headlines have included reports of shadow campaigns, potential indictments and concerns about city services like fire and rescue…all of which will be fodder for hard-hitting and wide-ranging questions and answers in WUSA 9's Campaign 2014: DC Debate…Now or Never.

WUSA 9 announced Tuesday that it will host the final live debate between the top* four mayoral candidates in D.C. Carried live from the WUSA 9 studios in D.C., the final mayoral candidate debate promises to produce verbal fireworks on Wednesday, March 26th beginning at 7 p.m.

The debate will be moderated by veteran and award-winning political reporter Bruce Johnson. Recognized by the D.C. City Council for being one of the nation's best urban affairs and investigative journalists, WUSA 9's Bruce Johnson has been covering D.C. politics since Marion Barry's first term as mayor. Johnson also has tens of thousands of Twitter followers and this dynamic combination of skills make Johnson the perfect moderator for the final debate.

Fred D'Ambrosi, WUSA 9 News Director, says, "The political management of the District is hugely important here in D.C. in its own right, and obviously D.C. voters deserve a final opportunity to hear from the top candidates. The fact that DC's premiere political reporter Bruce Johnson is so passionate about local politics makes producing and carrying the debate an easy call."

Burdett says that the commitment to local viewers extends well beyond television and WUSA 9 will be using every available technology to stream the debate and live tweet the debate, in addition to carrying it live on WUSA 9 Wednesday night from 7:00 to 8:00.

According to WUSA 9 President and General Manager Mark Burdett, "We believe that the final mayoral debate is also vital to the hundreds of thousands of Marylanders and Virginians who commute to and work in our nation's capital city. Making this programming available on every possible platform is a reflection of WUSA9's genuine commitment to the region."

The debate will be broadcast on WUSA 9, simulcast on BOUNCE TV DC, streamed live on the WUSA 9 news app and live tweeted by @wusa9.

*Poll commissioned by Washington City Paper and WAMU and released on March 21, 2014.
