DHS steps up security for some direct flights to US

WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) -- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is stepping up security for some direct flights to the U.S., according to a statement released by Secretary Jeh Johnson on Wednesday.

"I have directed TSA to implement enhanced security measures in the coming days at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States. We will work to ensure these necessary steps pose as few disruptions to travelers as possible," said Johnson.

Johnson said DHS is sharing "recent and relevant information" with foreign allies and consulting the aviation industry in preparation for the increased security measures.
