DC Police: Suspect robs man, steals dog

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Police are searching for a person in connection with an armed robbery resulting in theft of a dog that happened in NE D.C. Tuesday night.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the incident happened around 11:44 p.m. in the area of 49th Street and Central Avenue, Northeast.

Authorities said a man was approached by another man in a green, four-door vehicle. The suspect in the vehicle had a handgun and demanded the victim's money.

The suspect then fled the scene with the victim's property, including a pet dog. Police said the dog is a three-year-old Shih Tzu with silver, white, and brown colored fur.

The suspect is being described as a black man with a dark complexion. He is about 5 feet in height and weighs around 125 pounds. He was armed with a handgun at the time, police said.
