Man escapes police custody after DC traffic stop

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - A man with drugs in his vehicle fled after a traffic stop in the District Thursday night, police said.

Around 7:10 p.m., police stopped the suspect in the 600 block of Lamont Street in Northwest.

During the investigation, the suspect was placed in handcuffs for not complying with directions and for providing false information.

A further investigation revealed did not possess a valid permit in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia.

Before the suspect fled the scene, he gave consent to police searching his vehicle. Officers located two bags of suspected illegal drugs. The suspected illegal drugs were weighed with the packaging they were recovered in.
