WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Panic ensued in downtown DC after reports of an active shooter erupted in Northwest. DC police later said that these reports were unfounded.
DC police received a report around 3:15 p.m. of an active shooter on the 1400 block of I St, NW. They asked people in nearby buildings to shelter in place as an investigation began. After an extensive search which yielded no evidence of a shooter or victims, police declared that the reports were unfounded at around 3:40 p.m.

DC police said that the reports came from someone allegedly pointing a fake gun out of a window.
The area around the 1400 block of I St., which was closed for a short time, has since reopened.
