DC massage therapist pleads guilty to sexually assaulting 3 clients

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - A massage therapist arrested after sexually assaulting clients at two massage establishment locations in Northwest Washington has pled guilty to three sex offenses on Thursday, DC police announced.

Silver Spring resident Habtamu Gebreslassie, 24, pled guilty in DC Superior Court to first-degree sexual abuse of a client, attempted first-degree sexual abuse of a client, and misdemeanor sexual abuse. The plea could mean 19 to 60 months in prison, followed by three years of superved release, and would require Gebreslassie to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Gebreslassie's sentencing is set for February 16, 2018.

According to police, all three female victims were getting massages by Gebreslassie, a licensed massage therapist, when the sex offenses took place.

The first incident took place on June 12, at Deluca Massage and Bodywork in Dupont Circle. The victim said that Gebreslassie touched her inner thigh around her groin area.

The second incident occurred on August 28, at Massage Envy in Tenleytown. The victim said that Gebreslassie put his face close to her groin and touched beyond her bikini line.

Finally, on September 17, a woman reported to DC police that Gebreslassie had put his tongue on her private area during her massage. Gebreslassie was arrested that same day.

In late November, Buzzfeed News reported that over 1,200 Massage Envy locations were facing sexual assault complaints. In the report, one of Gebreslassie’s victims, identified as Tara Woodley, came forward publicly with her story.
