DC man gets 12 years for bank robberies and child porn

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A twenty-six-year-old man from D.C. was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Monday for having child pornography on his phone and for conspiracy to commit bank robbery.

Devontae West was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow and has 15 years of supervised release, in addition to his prison sentence.

Authorities said West must register as a sex offender wherever he is living, works and studies after he is released from prison.

West's plea agreement shows he stole vehicles to use during bank robberies, wrote demand notes to the bank tellers and made teenagers enter the banks to demand money.

Authorities said West was involved in bank robberies between March 20 and May 22.

West had sex with a 15-year-old girl who helped him rob banks. Authorities said he also took photos of them having sex. The photos were found on his cell phone.

One of his co-conspirators, Calvin Manning pleaded guilty to helping in a bank robbery. He was sentenced to four years in prison on June 12.
