Child struck by car in NE D.C.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - An 8-year-old girl was hit by a car in Northeast D.C. early Saturday night, Metropolitan Police said.

Fire officials responded to the scene in the 5300 block of Chillum Place just before 9 p.m.

The girl has serious injuries was transported to the hospital, but officials believe she is going to be ok. 

A man stopped to help the girl after the incident and suffered cardiac arrest. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Police said this is not the person who hit the girl.

It is unclear whether or not the driver stayed on the scene.
