Carjacking suspect killed by police after chase into DC

A car jacking and wild police chase ended with a shoot out in the middle of the street.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A carjacking suspect was shot and killed by Prince George's County authorities after they chased him into Southeast D.C., according to D.C. police.  

The suspect was pursued by county police and Forest Heights police to the 2800 block of Gainsville Street SE. There, police said they exchanged gunfire with the subject and critically wounded him. 

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to D.C. police. 

According to police, the suspect assaulted a driver in Prince George's County and took off in their vehicle at around 7 p.m.  

It was not specified whether an officer with Prince George's County police or Forest Heights police shot the suspect. 

Prince George's County police will be the lead agency on the investigation.  

All three agencies were involved in the chase.
