80 demonstrators arrested at U.S. Capitol

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - United States Capitol Police responded to 13 locations in the House and Senate Office Buildings Monday for reported demonstrations.

Some of the protesters were fighting Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. They gathered outside the offices of several lawmakers, including Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, Arkansas Sen. John Boozman, and Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner.

Police said they warned demonstrators to stop. Those who refused to cease and desist were arrested and charged with crowding, obstructing and incommoding.

As of 4:30 p.m., a total of 80 arrests had been made.

The House office building had 21 total arrests, including 10 men and 11 women. The Senate office buildings had 59 total arrests, 22 men and 37 women.
