7-Eleven clerk shows hammer, robbers unfazed

These bandits were the most brazen until clerks fought back.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - D.C police are looking for a pair of convenience store robbers who were unfazed by a clerk with a hammer.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Sunday in the 200 block of Cedar Street in Northwest.

The 7-Eleven in Takoma has been robbed three times since July, owner Hojart Singh said. Police just released his high-definition security video of the latest robbery Sunday night.

Video showed a man in a cast and a woman barge behind the counter when a store employee charges out of the backroom swinging the hammer.

“He needed something to protect himself,” Singh said. “These kids – some are almost double his size of this guy. He wasn’t trying to hit them, he was just trying to scare them.”

At one point, the woman grabbed the hammer and started hitting workers. Workers said the pair got away with $200 worth of cigarettes.

Police are offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for an armed robbery.

Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099.  Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
