14-year-old pleads not guilty in National Zoo shooting

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A 14-year-old boy charged with attempted first degree murder for shooting two people outside the Smithsonian National Zoo on Easter Monday pleaded not guilty, Bruce Johnson reports.

Police say the teenager is a member of a Southwest Washington gang that had been fighting with another group, Johnson reports.

The teenage gunman appeared in court wearing shackles and cuffs, Johnson tweeted.

The boy is roughly 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds.

Police say the 14-year-old shot the two members of the opposing gang in the hand and arm respectively. Both of the victims were treated and released from the hospital.

No word yet on when the next hearing or trial is set.
