1 woman dead after fatal DC crash

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - D.C. police are investigating a fatal car crash that left one woman dead Saturday night.

The woman was identified as 39-year-old Cassidy Karakorn.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 on the 1100 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast. 

Police said a Piaggio scooter was driving eastbound on Florida Avenue when it collided with a Volkswagen Touareg. The Volkswagen was attempting to make a U-turn to travel westbound when the scooter struck the driver's sided of the car.

After the crash, the Touareg driver and witnesses tried helping Karakorn, the scooter driver.

DC Fire and EMS took Karakorn to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
