1 killed in morning crash in NW DC

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Police say a pedestrian was killed in a car accident Friday morning in Northwest Washington.

It happened at approximately 4:28 a.m. at the intersection of 13th St. and I St., when the driver of a 2007 Mack trash truck struck a pedestrian who was walking in the crosswalk, police say.

The driver continued southbound on 13th St. for about a half block before realizing he had struck someone and called 911, police say. The driver remained on scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the victim's identity is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification. The crash is under investigation.
