WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - One person is dead after a car crash early Friday morning in Northeast, D.C., Metropolitan police said.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. in the area of 34th and Benning Rd., authorities stated. Officers responded to a vehicle wrapped around a pole. Police said the driver was going at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of the car, mounted the curb and hit the telephone pole.
Police said a male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The victim has been identified as a 27-year-old Deandre Hamlin of Southeast, D.C.
