WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - A teenager is dead and another person is fighting for his or her life in the hospital after shots rang out in Georgetown early Saturday morning.
The attack happened around 3 a.m. off Water Street.
“It's really quite shocking,” Samiha Sobhan said.
The ground was littered with beer bottles and evidence markers. The yellow crime tape was wrapped like spaghetti.
“This is an extremely safe community and this kind of thing never happens here,” Sobhan said.
Gunshots left 19-year-old Kennedy Javier Amaya-Olivares dead. A second person was put in critical condition in the hospital.
The chaos left bikers being turned away, and construction workers being escorted into their site.
“I was absolutely baffled,” Al Umar said. “I mean it's strange to actually here this kind of thing in the Georgetown community.”
Umar parks his ice cream truck close to where the shooting happened at least twice a month. He usually does good business, but fears news of his latest attack may have an effect on him.
“As long as this kind of news keeps spreading around that would even scare away customers to enjoy the fun they usually have,” Umar explained.
Police are being tight lipped on the investigation.
