Crews clean up blank pennies after tractor-trailer crash

A tractor-trailer crashed and spilled blank pennies on Interstate 95 in New Castle, Del.

WILMINGTON, DEL. (WUSA9) - It's going to be a rough commute for people in Delaware as one of the state's major interstates is shut down Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer crash left blank pennies strewn all over the roadway.

The northbound lanes of I-95 are shut down at Route 141 through New Castle County while crews try to clean up the scattered pennies off the roadway.

According to CBS Philly reporter Chris Peralta, the crews have been cleaning the roadway all morning.

The crash occurred around 1:55 a.m., according to The News-Journal, and the driver only sustained minor injuries and was assessed on scene.

DelDot is diverting traffic to U.S. Route 13 northbound to I-295 northbound.

The road isn't expected to reopen until after morning rush hour at 9 a.m.
